A workshopin Kanagawa.
Carrying the craft of miyadaiku across generations.
Komatsu Daiku-ten is a miyadaiku workshop based in Kanagawa, Japan. We build and restore shrines and temples, and also hand-craft small wooden objects for daily life — fishing rods, tea utensils, and the like — using the nearly-nail-less interlocking joinery passed down through the craft. This site is a catalog of the work we have shaped.
A miyadaiku is a Japanese carpenter who specializes in the construction and restoration of shrines and temples. The craft uses almost no nails — interlocking wooden joints hold structures together for a century or more. This site is a catalog of works we have shaped.
